Hey,

I posted once before about my oil leak, and I have it figured out. I need to replace the cam seal, crank seal, timing belt, water pump and alternator belt (squeals every time the car is turned on). They're charging me about $400-500, which is equal to an arm and a leg. How much of a do-it-yourselfer kind of job would this be? I'm good at following directions, but not extremely experienced with auto maintenance and repair. OR, does anyone here live in Maryland that would be able to give me a hand for a more affordable rate, say $200? Or know of a place in the state that is experienced and affordable..ok thanks anything helps.

Luckily that whole project can be done together at once in a short amount of time really. To get to the water pump, everything else you mentioned has to come off.

The water pump is the most expensive part too.

The hardest part is getting the crank bolt out if you don't have an impact gun.

Otherwise, with hand tools, haynes manual, and a jack it's pretty easy. I like to undo the passenger side motor mount and drop the engine down a few inches. Makes it easier to get to all those things around the bottom pulley area.

Thanks,

I got all that repaired but still leaking

runs out of oil almost every other day of driving, and I have to keep putting quarts in it so my engine doesn't blow

my mechanic suggested redoing the whole oiling system

like o-rings and seals etc

and I got an aftermarket crank seal so I just ordered one from the dealer

I feel hustled :-/

He said the aftermarket one didn't fit properly
Meanwhile, oil is still spilling on my alternator belt

So whenever this can finally be fixed I have to re-replace parts

GRRR

I just want the thing to stop leaking!

Any help appreciated...

is the shaft smooth where the seals go on? if seals had gone hard and worn a lip in the shaft a normal seal will leak always . to fix that you'd need to smooth off the lip and install and slightly different seal that comes in a touch further

I just changed all of those on my 96 aspire and and it leaks still. I think my head is worn out where the cam seal seats. you may have a worn shaft or seat somewhere as well.

You know you can run the car with those timing belt covers off. Once you clean everything off, start it and have a look, so you can zero in on your trouble area exactly.

The precision is the religion for me!
