I put in GM ATF. Any fluid with General Motors' label on it costs twice the normal cost (at least) but I got this stuff from the guys at my old shop. They dripped ATF quarts until there was enough for my Aspire.

FYI: General Motors fluid for the transfer case, front and rear differentials in a half ton Silverado will cost you over $300 bucks!

Not much difference between any "Mercon" fluid because they all meet the Mercon specifications.

My advice, switch to a synthetic ATF. Then you'll actually notice a difference in MPG and shifting. Obviously my favorite is AMSOIL Universal ATF but I'm a little bias.

i will be replacing the ATF filter so doing a complete drain refill, too. so i will look for a suitable full-synthetic mercon ATF.

it does shift awfully hard right now. i don't think the fluid is very old or used since it used to have a steady ATF leak and was always being topped off. besides a flush and filter replacement, does anyone else know what it could be? like a vacuum issue, maybe?
