Hi folks,

Stripping down my car for a repaint, and I was curious if there's any relatively easy way to get the rear quarter windows out of a 4 door without damaging either them or the trim frames? A heat gun didn't make much of a dent in the sealant, unlike the windshield trim sealant.

Thanks - once again, much obliged.

Cheers,
Adam

I would say go with the old guitar string method

I recommend getting the thinnest wire you can find that is ridged. Get a thin flexible knife to break the seal first, then feed the wire.

I think you would use the same process as on the 2 door, although i cannot confirm- having only ever seen this work on 2 door varieties.
The 2 door rear glass is removed by a string cutter, which kinda has handles on both ends, and you cut through the seal all the way round. Although i have only ever seen this done by an expert, it looks pretty easy? The pain would be reinstalling IMO.

seems similar to the guitar string method. Just using a string instead of wire.

I could just mask it, but that would conflict with my perfectionistic streak. I'm changing the colour of the car, and trying to make sure there's no rust hiding anywhere.

I can live with not removing the windshield because it seems like that's tough to do without breaking it, but these little ones should be easy enough.

Thanks gents, I'll give that a go.

Cheers,
Adam

What color are you going with? Just curious.

And welcome to the boards!

Thanks...been lurking for a while, but I've only recently got my project bug back. I posted a while back that I'm doing an electric conversion, and it's a long-term thing. It doesn't help that it's -25C right now and I don't have a heated garage, so working on the car is out for a bit (paint doesn't cure well at these temps obviously!)

Since I don't have AC, if I was smart I'd repaint white. That said, I'm leaning more towards black, since I've really liked my Frontier in black. At any rate, it WON'T be red, which I don't like at all. I try not to buy cars based on colour, and as a result, almost every single one I've owned has been red. Very sick of red

Here's a couple of shots so far...probably going to work on the suspension before attacking the body finish too much. Been surprisingly little body rust (mainly inside bumpers, under hinges and such), so the main issue will just be restoring the suspension.
