I'm getting some poping sounds lately, especially when go across a dip in the road at an angle, like turning a corner. Does it worse cold. I can hit a speed bump straight on and no noise, just when the suspension is uneven, worse in the rear but lately in the front too.

The pop is pretty loud. The suspension seems stiff, so I think maybe the struts are freezing up. I've crawled under there but didn't see anything that looked bad.

Ideas welcome.

Mine does it too. I stopped worrying about it. You may want to change your struts. Apparently the struts ride on strut plates which they pivot on. When they get old and corroded they can make a popping noise - or so said the guy on the TV program I saw about that sort of thing.

I wouldn't ignore it; I had that kind of a noise on my Aspire, and I took it to a shop. Can't remember exactly what it was, but they replaced something for about $200 and the popping went away... but the mechanic said if I had hit a large enough bump, me wheel would have come off! (Maybe it was a ball joint, but $200 to replace one of those seems a little light.)

Yep. I liked working on the Aspire because it was so simple. The teeny engine left room around it to work. And the controls were still pretty mechanical so you could tweek them in when they were off.

The bracket that held my clutch pedal broke. I'm sure if I took it into a shop I woulda been looking at $300-400 for a new bracket and the labor to install it. Instead I removed the bracket and found one of the pop rivets had let go where the clutch cable attached. I trilled out the weld, replaced it with a screw and locknut, and put it back in and never had a bit of trouble with it after that.

if it pops when your turning, does it happen when your turning and then all of a sudden you hear the pop and then your stearing wheel turns more intot he direction your turning? if so then its more likely i would think your top strut mount. i just changed them on my moms mercury and i need to change them on my aspire to ( if i get her back on the road that is ) this is really unsafe if its your strut mount, at speeds over 120km/h you cant take turns on the highway. if its not that then its probably your ball joint. ( if its the ball joint then it wont make your stearing wheel jerk more when you turn but if the wheel jerks more when you turn all a sudden then its your strut seat mounts (top) )
