since changing the tank, ive ran a few tanks of gas through it and im averaging about 32 to the gallon. this was with a bad idle switch. that was why my check engine light was on as i believe i previously stated when i first told of this particular car. that is also about 90% highway miles from bangor to more northern parts of maine. about @ hours up and @ hours back and about 60-65 mph. does this seem right? just today i changed that idle switch and the check engine light is now out, the dumby buzzer for the keys and lights now works and the seatbelt light works. i figure it mustve been something ford or kia had in mind i guess. i dont know. but now it all works, i still have to change the plugs and put some ngk's in, and change the wires and oil too. should i change the cap and rotor while im at it too? or just leave it? it runs fine, the idle just seems low to me still. could the idle switch cause slightly poorer mileage somehow too?i just changed that switch literally 10 minutes ago and im curious if ill see much of an improvement. oh, and the temp up here has been around the 20's during the day, and closer to the single digits in the evenings when im delivering with the car.

5 speed or automatic? if automatic that is pretty good for the winter!

5 speed that pretty good for the winter. mileage drops off in the winter because there is more moisture in the air and the fuel does not burn as efficiently and with colder air the combustion mixture is more lean anyway. also your engine takes longer to warm up to operating temperature where it is more efficient.

And there's the gasoline blends that they use in the winter time, I usually see a 5 mpg drop in economy when they switch over.

my blurple was an automatic. At best it got 35mpg but it got down to about 32 after I'd had it about 9 years, LOL. So yeah 32 ain't bad for winter time.

Yeah, that idle switch does affect the mileage, it tells the computer to switch to an economy map because it knows/certifies that you don't need any power at this moment. Conversly, when you go WOT, the computer switches to open loop mode and gives you as much power as it can at the cost of mileage. Your best mileage will be under 60mph...over 60 and you're really pushing air needlessly.
That switch is obviously adjustable, make sure it's "making and breaking" at the right moment, otherwise replacing it does nothing!
The cap-rotor rule usually goes, "If you're doing wires and plugs, do the cap and rotor too, the idea being, so they can all grow old together". Think of it as a kind of "Hallmark moment".

The precision is the religion for me!

I checked my mpg last night after doing 150 miles delivering and I got just under 27. I'd say that's about normal for a lot of idling and stop and go and a lot of picking up speed to get on the interstate and slowing down to get off. But the check engine light came back on right when I got to work. Same code. The throttle is sticky again so I'll see if I can adjust the tps and If I can figure it out hopefully I can get some more mpg

I get 31 at best with my '94 with automatic and 150K miles which is exactly where it's supposed to be according to fueleconomy.gov. I went from 29 to 31 mpg after changing oil brands.
