Instructions on how-to change struts/cut springs

1) Loosen your lug bolts.
2) Jack up your car and take the tire off, and support the vehicle securely with jackstands.
3) Pull the brake hose holder off, and move the brake hose out of the way.
4) Remove the 2 11/16ths nuts from the steering knuckle/strut.
5) Remove the 2 14mm nuts from the top mount of the strut, located in the engine compartment.
6) Pull the strut assembly out of the car from the wheel well.
7) Use your Spring Compressor Tool Kit to compress the springs until they don't touch the top or bottom mount.
8) Cut a single coil off the bottom of the spring. DO NOT CUT THE TOP!!!
9) Decompress the spring, making sure the Top and bottom seat properly.
10) installation is the reverse of removal.

I could and would not have done this upgrade without the help of some others here on fa.com, namely, iceracerdude and nerdracing. If I missed anyone just let me know. Here's some other threads that also have some valuable info, I always like to do my homework before I modify anything.

thank you zoom zoom for this wonderful step-by-step "how to" for the KIA Rio struts. unfortunately i cant do mine 'till we go to the junk yard Wednesday for my moms '91 stealth engine (and my struts, of course) such a nice car, even though it doesn't run.

Great write up ZOOM, there are so many people driving around on broken aspire springs that just don't know it it's not even funny.
Have you got any camber bolts pics you can post with this write-up for the people who've never seen them? I can send you some if you don't have any.

Good luck finding Stealth or 3000 gt stuff at the graveyard. Nothing for that car is ever inexpensive.

The precision is the religion for me!

No I didn't think to take pics of the bolts, I just used the stock ones that came off the original setup. I'll be changing the ctrl ARM/sway bar bushings soon (ordered them yesterday) so maybe ill have a minute to pull these out and snap a pic or 2.
